Chickens are already an integral part of human life. Chickens are one of the major sources of animal meat, aside from pork and fish. As a business, they offer an opportunity for people to earn big that’s why there are many poultry farms out there. One of the major customers for poultry farms are the major fast-food companies, although some of them have their own chicken farms to supply their needs.
Don’t get behind the profits, and start setting up your poultry farms now. It is not hard to do so. Here are some useful tips that can help you along your way.

Chickens are just like your children and other animals. To ensure continuous production of chicken and eggs, your chickens should be regularly checked by veterinarians to ensure their health. Sick chickens will negatively affect your production, so it is important to have adequate medical coverage for your poultry animals.

This e-book, Broiler Production and Management Guide in Nigeria, is written to present the case fairly and squarely so the farmer may see the advantages that poultry offers as a means of making money. The book lays special emphasis upon all the important practices and new wrinkles that have been found profitable by professional breeders and poultry-men. It shows how these can be easily applied by any one and what may be expected in the way of results. From cover to cover it is intended as an encouragement and a stimulus to everyone interested in poultry. Not only does it indicate which are the lines likely to be most profitable, but it points out those branches of the business not likely to be remunerative, except under special conditions

The reduced net profit per broiler at increased market age could be due to poorer feed conversion ratio and extra cost of management due to prolonged period of rearing. Thus, it appears to be more profitable to market broilers at an age earlier than 47 days.

For a farmer to be successful in broilers, he should rear between 1000 to 10,000 birds and above per batch. Harvest should be at least weekly. A large poultry house is needed. Provision of constant electricity is necessary for lighting and cold room. Broiler production entails purchasing DOCs (broiler), brooding, and raising them for six to seven weeks.). Well managed flock will weigh between 1.8 to 2.4kg within this period and upon dressing, weigh between 1.4 to 1.8kg and bird which is the standard weight for most eateries. Some companies that buy live birds pays between N410 to N600/kg live weight. Eateries and some cold rooms pay N600 to N820/bird dressed weight. Profit expectation from raising broiler is between N130 to N150/ bird.
6 flocks of birds will be raised (yearly) on the same premises of a farm
